The President of India is the head of state and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The president is elected by an electoral college consisting of elected members of both houses of parliament and the state legislative assemblies. The term of office is five years.

1. Salary and Allowances

The President of India receives a salary of 500,000 Indian rupees (US$6,000) per month. The Vice President receives 400,000 Indian rupees (US$4,800) per month, and the Prime Minister receives 300,000 Indian rupees (US$3,600) per month.

2. Droupadi Murmu: The First Tribal Woman President

Droupadi Murmu was elected President of India in 2022, becoming the first tribal woman to hold the office. She is the second woman to serve as President, after Pratibha Patil.
