Emma Hayes Names 18 Players for Summer Olympics

CHICAGO, June 26, 2024

US Women's National Team (USWNT) head coach Emma Hayes has named the 18-player roster and four alternates for the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

The roster, which was announced today at a press conference in Chicago, features a mix of experienced veterans and rising stars.

Among the notable selections are FIFA Player of the Year Sophia Smith and two-time World Cup winner Rose Lavelle. The team will also feature a number of players who helped the USWNT win the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, including goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, defender Becky Sauerbrunn, and midfielder Lindsey Horan.

Hayes said that she is confident in the team's ability to compete for a gold medal in Paris.

"We have a great group of players who are all committed to winning," Hayes said. "We have a good mix of experience and youth, and I think we have the potential to be a very successful team."

The USWNT will begin their Olympic campaign on July 25 against New Zealand. They will also face Australia and the Netherlands in the group stage.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout rounds, which will begin on August 6.

The gold medal match will be played on August 10.
