Tina Peters, Former Mesa County Clerk, Convicted of Tampering with Voting Machines

Guilty on Seven of 10 Counts Related to 2021 Breach

Former Colorado clerk Tina Peters has been convicted of seven of 10 counts related to a 2021 breach of the Mesa County election system.

Peters was the first local election official to be charged with a security breach after the 2020 election amid unfounded conspiracy theories about widespread voter fraud.

A jury in Grand Junction found Peters guilty on Monday of tampering with voting machines under her control, a felony, and several other charges related to the breach.

Peters has maintained her innocence and plans to appeal the verdict.
